Chesterfield Pickleball News

Hi member,

Windscreen Installation This Weekend - CTC
We will be inconvenienced a bit this weekend at CTC as the new windscreens are installed. Parks and Rec may need some volunteers to help, but they will be in charge of maintenance of the new screens. They have found that we can used stronger ties, so the windscreens may stay in place better than the current ones.
When we ask for volunteers, we will appreciate you help. Please check our PCCC Facebook page for the details.

Member of the Month – Karen Kent
Our PCCC Member of the Month is Karen Kent. Karen has been playing pickleball for 3 years. She took her first set of classes at CTC and then joined the Beginners Group who play at CTC each morning, forming fast friendships over the years. She is a nurse and works in cardiology.
One day last month, she really hadn't planned on being at CTC, but at the last minute she decided to go. This was a fortuitous decision for one of our players, Wayne Latimer. Wayne - who had never had any indication that he had heart disease, collapsed on the court at the beginning of his third game that morning. Karen immediately took charge, assessed the situation and started CPR while directing some players to get the AED. She and her "team" performed all the necessary procedures for someone in cardiac distress, and saved Wayne’s life!!!
Karen, like all true heroes, is humble and plays down her role giving credit to others who jumped in to help.
When I asked if there was a message she would like to leave with all pickleball players, she said, "I am convinced it was the AED that made the difference in whether or not Wayne survived. I am so grateful that we had one so available." Further, she wants to make sure that we all know that we shouldn't wait - because seconds matter. "If someone is not breathing, start CPR immediately, dial 911 and get the AED. Do not be afraid of it, it will tell you exactly what to do."
Karen (and your helpers), we can never thank you enough for being there and taking charge of the scene, to make sure that we had the best outcome possible. Wayne and his wife Beth are expected to visit the courts this week to thank their pickleball angels, and one angel in particular.

CPR and AED training
We have a cardiologist and a firefighter who have volunteered to come to the courts to give us a quick demo on CPR and using the AED. I hope you will find time to be there when this occurs. Watch for details and dates on this on our PCCC Facebook page. This will boost your confidence if and when we have another emergency. I know you hope that someone has learned these techniques if the patient is you, so why not you be ready to be someone's hero next time?

Parks and Rec Lessons Start This Week
Chesterfield Parks and Rec classes begin this week. Tell your friends who have been wanting to learn to play. They can go to Chesterfield.gov/Parks to find and register for classes.

Pickleball Guru Clinics – This Month
Our own Pickleball Guru, Prem Carnot will be here this month for his nationally known clinics. The Pickleball Club of Chesterfield has sponsored Prem’s once a year clinics and bootcamps for 12 years. Many of our best players started out with him. Check out the Pickleball Guru website to see if there are any spots left. You will be glad you did.

See you on the courts!
